Exploring desert surroundings around Lake Havasu-February and March 2009

We have done a variety of things around Lake Havasu since our arrival this season.

Desert Trips:

We have taken two trips out in the desert with Linda and Gary exploring with the Rhino and the jeep.  One trip they took us to a dry waterfall named Bison Falls.

Later we went back with our Canadian friends Connie and Brian.  Steve wanted to take the jeep  to the top of the falls.

On this trip Brian spotted a rattlesnake sunny itself on the road.

Another jeep trip was to Topock Marina for lunch.

We have also gone out in the desert on a few hikes.  A hike we really enjoyed was one that started in Sara Park.  It was called The Crack in the Wall.

The hike provided diverse scenery; from boulders to panoramic views of the lake.

It is getting hotter outside.  More flowers are blooming and wildlife are coming out in the open.

We discovered a short hike in Windsor State Park.  The hike provides viewpoints of the lake and winds down to a Cacti and bird garden.  We went a second time with our neighbors, Dick and Celine.  They were from Buffalo, New York.

We went to the  car races one weekend with Steve and Chris.  The races involved legend cars, late model factory cars, factory stock cars, thunder roadsters, Ford Focus Midgets and the bandoleros.  The vehicles had a variety of engines and drivers.  Cars were powered by lawn mower engines, motorcycle engine, and regular car engines.  Drivers were of the ages 8-74.  Lake Havasu Speedway is a quarter mile asphalt track.  It is located within Sara Park.

Connie and Brian stopped at Lake Havasu on their way home to Canada.  We recently met them when we were in Casa Grande.  We hiked, went to the Desert Bar, and played a couple rounds of golf.  We played a twilight game at The Refuge.  It is a signature course designed by Arnold Palmer.  It is quite nice and beautiful!

Gary and Linda took us out in their boat and we got a tour of the lake.

Our spot at Lake Havasu was very nice.  It provided shade and cover as the weather got warmer.  This is Steve in the casita partaking in a hard day at work.
